I am someone who likes to try new things. So recently, while at a quilt show, I saw this ottoman/stool called a ‘tuffet’. I had to have it. You could buy the kit with our without fabric so I chose without. As all quilters know, we have fabric!
My plan was to use this bright colored floral fabric I had left from a quilt I made for a friend’s child that was getting married. It was modern and would really look good on my tuffet. I thought I’d do it using one strip of floral and then one strip of a tone on tone or a solid. In my mind, it would look great.
I went to my walk-in closet FULL OF STASH and couldn’t find the floral fabric. Then I went through it a second time. Nothing. I called my friend Leslie and asked her if she remembered me giving it away. Sometimes when I’m done with a project and someone likes the material, I give them what I have left. Leslie said, “You loved that fabric. You would never have given that away.” So I searched a third time. Nothing!
Prior to my tuffet purchase, I had been working on a modern-style quilt – mostly white with some bright colors thrown in. Frustrated with my search for the missing florals, I decided to work again on the modern quilt. Wouldn’t you know it, the bright floral fabric was right on my sewing machine. I had used it in the modern quilt. Now, the pitiful part is, it’s not that I hadn’t been working on this modern quilt for months. It had only been a few days since I touched this project and my machine.
As the saying goes: Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most. So true!
