Once upon a time there was a need. A number of people recognized it and wanted to do something about it. Enter Row by Row Experience and Kuni Island Fabrics on Oahu. Terri, the owner of Kuni Island Fabrics, has exciting news and wants to share it.
Row by Row Experience has come up with a 9th Row for this year’s theme, Home Sweet Home. There are three versions of this special Row designed by Karen Montgomery. It contains the three words, Home Sweet Home. Quilt Shops participating in the 2016 Row by Row event can either give away one of the patterns or create a kit for them. Row by Row Experience asks the quilt shops to donate a portion of their sales for the kits to their favorite charity or a local non-profit that benefits homelessness.
Terri decided to participate in the 9th Row event and chose Moiliili Community Center as her charity. Their website describes Moiliili as a “private non-profit agency that provides residents of Moiliili and the surrounding communities with support, services, and programs to enhance individual, family and community life”. For more information on Moiliili Community Center, check out their website http://www.moiliilicc.org.
Terri has owned her shop for over 20 years and said, “I have always done a community fundraiser each year and this year decided to do the 9th Row”. Her focus at Moiliili is the senior center. She said, “they have a day care for seniors that sew and the sewing projects are sold at local fairs. All the proceeds from their sales goes back to the Center”. There is a large military community around Terri’s shop and she is excited that quilters from the base frequent her shop and participate in Row by Row Experience.
Terri has sold over 200 of her original Home Sweet Home Row and over 150 of the 9th Row. With her success, she’s been able to give over $500 to the Center. The Row kit sells for $15.00 and Terri gives $7 of that to the Center.
Kudos to you Terri and Kuni Island Fabrics. Moiliili is benefitting from your generosity, and you and Kuni Island Fabrics are a WINNER!
