Collaboration Quilts – what a fun concept for Row by Row shops and rowers!

So what is a collaboration quilt, you ask? This type of Row by Row quilt happens when a group of shops plan their rows together. Rowers collect the pieces to create a specific quilt. It’s like an event within Row by Row Experience… a whole different experience!

Over the years there have been several very clever collaboration quilts. From concept to quilt, the project takes lots of coordination and cooperation by colleague shop owners, yet the results are stunning.

Enjoy Part One of this tour and be sure to let me know if you know of other collaborations for the summer of 2019. Click here to read Part Two with more Collaborative Quilts.

Texas

Two Chicks Quilting wanted to do a collaboration and reached out to other shops in the area. Once the design was set, Beth Auble was hired to take the designs and write the patterns.

The shops participating are:

Two Chicks Quilting, Ganado TX
Quilters Patch, Victoria TX
Beefore It’s A Quilt, Pt Lavaca TX
Seams Like Home, Yorktown TX
Three Oaks Retreats, Yoakum TX
The Square Quilter, Shiner TX
Quilter’s Cottage, Richmond TX
It Seams To Be Sew, Sugarland TX

Each shop designed their own finishing kits. They also came up with a bonus challenge/shop hop with a prize of a retreat for 5 people for 3 days plus gift certificates to shops. Lots of summer fun in Texas!

Maryland and Virginia

10 shops in MD and VA (know as the Quilters Quest Shops) joined together to create this adorably yummy quilt featuring foods local to the area. The shops involved certainly had fun with this one! They made up the names of the places and foods to reflect the fun personalities of the shops.

Crazy Cousin is BBQ, Artistic Artifacts is the coffee block, Scrappy Apple with the pie (of course), Patches is the root beer in a mug, Capital Quilts is the diner in the middle, Material Girls is Amy’s soda, The Crabby Quilter is the Crabby Cafe, Jinny Beyer Studio is Hot Pepper Jam.

Check out this winning quilt John presented at Jinny Beyer Studio! Rowers are having a blast with this one!

New York

Western New York State quilt shops have a history of beautiful collaborative quilts. This is the 3rd year they have worked with graphic designer Susan Rooney. Susan’s work can be seen in her amazing patterns and fabric designs with P&B Textiles.

I had the chance to meet with Susan earlier this summer at a quilt show in Rochester, New York. She graciously allowed me to create the following video showcasing the 2017 and 2018 Row by Row Collaborative quilts and presenting the 2019 quilt.

Note: I was a little nervous and totally messed up the dates of the quilts! But you will easily recognize 2017 On the Go and 2018 Sew Musical versions. And I know you will love the 2019 Taste the Experience quilt.

Watch the video for the fun and creative rows from these shops.
