“I love Row by Row. I’ve learned new skills like applique, paper piecing, and now I’ve quilted my first quilt.”
Meet Bette Jo: “I am originally from Washington State. We now live in South Rim, Utah. It’s near Stockton, Utah in the Rush Valley. My husband and I have been married 38 years and are retired from the United States Coast Guard. I have been sewing for about 35 years but only started making quilts about 15 years ago when my sister invited me to go along with her on the Western Washington Shop Hop. I’ve been hopping, shopping, and quilting ever since. She could have warned me quilting was expensive and addicting before she got me started!
I really enjoy Row by Row because it is fun, versatile, and I love traveling to new quilt shops. I’ve made so many new friends through Row by Row.”
Bette Jo has always considered herself a piecer but by quilting one row at a time, then making her quilt, she now calls herself a quilter. Bette Jo said she enjoys Row by Row because she can adapt the rows to her own style. “That’s the best part for me”, she says. As you can see by the picture of her gingerbread home sweet home quilt, she collects rows and creates a theme in her quilt. For 2016, she has made each row with a holiday theme so she’s actually got a theme within a theme within a theme (Home Sweet Home, birdhouses, and gingerbread/Christmas).
This is Bette Jo’s third year collecting Rows. Her first was Sew A Season which was a winner. This year, 2016, she won at My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe Too in Midway, Utah. We look forward to seeing where Row by Row, On The Go takes you, Bette Jo. Make sure you share!
