It all started with a road trip through West Virginia. The first stop was North Bend State Park in Cairo. I enjoyed the lodge, the park, and especially the fall colors. Unknown to me was that this state park is a popular place for quilt retreats. Unfortunately for me, I was one week too early for an upcoming retreat. As you can see by the quilt hanging on the wall in the park’s lobby, a wall quilt was made by North Bend Strippers as a thank you for the good times quilters have there.
Being an avid Rower, I drove to Clarksburg to check out Classic Quilt Shop. Owner Janet gave me a tour of her beautiful shop and showed me her 2016 Row and license plate. Janet has a classroom and introduced me the ladies in a class who were working on a double wedding ring quilt top. I told Janet I had just left North Bend State Park. She said, “That’s where we always have our retreats.” I bought a pattern but unfortunately I couldn’t fit anything else in my suitcase (she had beautiful fabrics), and her Row pattern or kit couldn’t be released until November 1st.
Thank you, Janet, for taking the time to show me around and maybe we’ll see each other at a retreat next year. And West Virginia? A beautiful state.
